Music

I started making music as Spinning Voices in 2008, as a personal project to see if I could teach myself electronic music composition. Until 2020, my primary instrument was Little Sound DJ, a Game Boy-based music tool. Since then I’ve branched out into many different synthesizers, toy keyboards, sampling, and improvisational recording.

Assemblage 23

assemblage: an artistic composition made from scraps, junk, and odds and ends (as of paper, cloth, wood, stone, or metal)

Spinning Voices: "Assemblage 23 is odds and ends that come together to make a whole. A variety of contrasting styles are at play, which end up part of a cohesive album.

The photography was taken when I worked at a historic Art Deco building in Minnesota. The building was run-down, plumbing was leaking, paint was chipping. Detritus was left over from the previous owners that was never removed. It felt a bit like a fever dream - we were working on brand new technology while our environment crumbled around us.

I tried to channel that experience into what you hear on the album."
